A Sea Change
This week was also a momentous week for my writing, as I migrated my work on /Conspiracy/ Girls to a new project. It's not like I am redoing the whole thing, but I really wanted the underlying save/load systems to be in place. Early in the week, I got really scared because I thought I would have to redo months of work, but it turned out that importing the files from my prototype in the order of assets, records, common events, scenes, makes everything work smoothly, which made me breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Now! The message box looks more like a 4chan text box, and I can add additional elements to it whenever I please, so I am quite pleased with remaking the foundations of the VN. Of course, I did this in part because EP4 was getting hard to write due to the plot holes existing in EP2, so I had to go right back in time to fix them.
Release doko?
As I was doing up EP1, I am pretty happy with the result; I would like to try uploading it to Steam and letting it see if it passes the Steam checks. Mostly so that I have a store page to work with and encourage myself to FINISH THE DARN BOOK.
I've already mentioned thinking about a release date and price, and like the book itself, it probably will be something memey, like Rokkenjima Day (Oct 4,5) or Happy Halloween Maria (Oct 10). This will give me enough time to finish majority of the book while having enough time to pend down my thoughts on writing the book too. So... time to face Gabe and see if the haglover passes my VN. (seriously Gabe, look at all those ratchet-ass WEGs out there, you can put my book in the non-m18 section, can't you?)
Lycoris Recoil
I quite like this show, it's early in the season but Chisato is running pretty close to best girl. Her relationship with Takane has the same energy as Akane and Rikka, voiced by Minori and Chise, so it fits my taste perfectly. It does remind of the original designs for Madison and Ayano, with Takine even filling in the whole moralfag role.
The problem with this dynamic is that if you have the secondary moralfag play the heel role, the audience might, you know, hate her over time? That was really my problem with writing Ayano at the start.
Plus it's difficult to pull a face turn this way without the main character betraying her ideals, or pulling an Eren at the end of SnK. I don't want that...!!! I would like my characters to fulfill their ideals to the end, at the detriment of their well-being, especially if it is at the detirment to their well-being. I think that's the main point of /Conspiracy/ Girls, the characters really believe in something (or will do so after a beating from Madi-san), and will carry out those ideals by doing SOMETHING when two people's ideals clash. It's Conflict 101.
In /Conspiracy/ Girls, Ayano has mostly shed the annoying detective shell, though she still doesn't believe in conspiracies. The moralfag role has been given over to a future character, and the annoying part has been given to one half of the main antagonist team in Agabamiya. I like this setup much better, though I am interested to see how Lycoris Recoil solves this problem.
I'll be watching this anime closely to see how I can improve my own work/ avoid any character pitfalls that it will inevitably fall in.
Last Word
If I am to (become the shogun of Japan) release /Conspiracy/ Girls in less than three months, there are a few things that I need to do; polish for EP1 is close to perfection, some backgrounds are missing, but most sprites are in place, if I am lucky the Store Page can be up at the beginning of August if I start work now.
I'll need to:
Get an Alex Jones impersonator to cut a promo for me.
Complete the "hard to get" backgrounds, mostly the meta backgrounds.
Wait for art to come in for the minor characters.
Setup the store page for Gabe.
Ah. Anya wants to play some Master Duel too. Doushio?
